Take care on the highway, there are wide cycle shoulders. Some of the old highway bridges have narrow shoulders.
An alternative route is possible by cycling on beach sand along the beach (Bundjalung National Park). Best at low tide. To do this, from Woodburn, need to go south along Tuckombil Road then The Gap Road (just south of Woodburn off the side of M1). It is not possible to directly connect to Evans Head on the beach due to military range. Caution: beach sand can be damaging to bicycles. Click here for tide details.
